You're thinking, why is she creating a blog about spirits? Well, I thought I'd share my many encounters with spirits and any future encounters that I will have.
Paranormal activity has always fascinated me - even though my family, including my dear husband think I'm nuts. It takes an open mind and an open soul to come in contact with a spirit or shall I say, accept contact with a spirit. I have been blessed to not have a meeting with an agry or mean spirit. I have seen spirit like images on a few occassions but I mainly feel their pressence - oh how I'd love to be able to hear and speak with them.
So I guess I should start at the beginning.
It all started when I was a baby. My parents would always tell me stories about when I was an infant how I would sit in my bed, looking up and carried on conversations (in my own language of course) with someone. As I got older, I actually had a name for this "imaginary" friend . . . Lisa. I know Lisa is still with me. I sense her from time to time and I think . . . I know she's saved my life, gotten me out of a bad situation and protected me on many occassions. Thank you God for blessing me with a great guide.
Now the first contact with any spirit that I can actually remember was back in junior high. The house we lived in was built on farm land and there was once a chicken coop in our front yard - the dark green block of grass reminded us of that for years. I'm not sure what kind of spirit stuck around the house but it annoyed me for many nights over a time span of about a year. At night, when I'd be in bed, in my own room, with the door shut mind you, it would hang out at the foot of my bed and tap on the rails. I had an iron daybed. At first I thought it was my brother or sister sneaking in to annoy me but I was never able to see anyone. I've always had a problem with hanging my feet off the bed at night but this confirmed to me that there indeed was something under my bed. :) Since then, I've always joked that there was a chicken spirit pecking on my bed.
Another moment that has stuck in my mind, happened in college. I was in my apartment waking up when I felt something kiss my left cheek and the room was filled with the heavy smell of men's cologne. I jumped out of bed and searched the apartment. My roommates were gone and I asked if any guys had been in that morning (that was my day to sleep in). No one had been there. I can still remember that feeling on my cheek and the smell of the cologne.
It was about a year later that I had my next experience. I was in a different apartment, different city and different furniture - some spirits travel with items. Oh wait, I brought the daybed with me. This one was the most creepy of my spirit "run-ins." It was in the evening and I was alone - of course. I had gone into the bathroom to put something up when I noticed something behind the shower curtain - a dark smoke-like something. I went to push open the shower curtain (one of those cheap plastic ones) and it felt like something was leaning up against it - there was pressure on the back of the curtain. I freak out and run out of there. About an hour later, I went back and of course everything was back to normal - thank goodness. That spirit never came back and I stopped showering in that bathroom (thank goodness it was a two bathroom apartment). I don't remember if I spoke to it or not. I saw an orb of some sort, once in that apartment and again when we moved into the house.
I've visited the Bellwitch cave but I can't really say if I experienced anything or if it was just a mental thing.
I'm visited the most by my grandfather who passed away in November 1993. When we moved into the house, my grandmother was also moving into a retirement home so I was given a few of her things. One of which was my Pappy's prized grandfather clock. I always loved that clock and he cherished that clock. We were always getting fussed at by him not to touch that clock. :) Now I'm always fussing at my kids not to mess with the clock. Anyway, there have been several occassions where Pappy has come by to check on his clock. You ask, how do I know? It's quite funny. We don't have the clock working and we have the chime turned off - it needs repair. When Pappy visits, the hands on the clock spin and the clock starts chiming. It's done that several times. The kids have actually been around to witness it - but not John (my husband). Although he was home one night when it started at 2:00 am but he didn't hear it (he can sleep through anything). I had to get up and stop the clock because it would chime every couple of minutes - quite annoying when you're trying to get some sleep. My Pappy visits about every 6 to 9 months. I'm actually due a visit soon. I usually tell him hello when he visits. I miss Pappy. My kids would have loved him. Wow, he'd be 89 if he were still live.
My grandmother died of lung cancer in January 2006. We were on our way to visit her when she passed so her body was still there when we arrived. She had been gone an hour or so when I walked in the room to see her. It was weird seeing her body there but was more weird was the fact that I still felt her there - it felt like she was hovering over us - I felt her so much that my lungs started hurting and it was hard to breathe . . . like someone was squeezing my lungs - is that what my grandmother experienced during her final days with us? They came and took her body and I finally got the nerve to go back into her bedroom and could sense she was no longer in there. Makes you wonder if spirits stay around the body for a while after dying. I didn't sense her at the funeral home when I was around her body. It was about a week after she passed that she came to me in my dreams and told me she was feeling better and could finally breathe without hurting. It was a nice closure dream.
John's grandmother passed in April 2007 of non-Hodgekin's limphoma (not sure on the spelling)cancer and we went to the house after they removed her body. All I could sense was peace in the house. While everyone was gone, John was outside with the kids, I was sitting in the kitchen and could have sworn I heard someone walking through the house. It is an old house - from the late 1800's or early 1900's so it may have just been normal old house noices.
There have been a couple of times where I've seen a dark orb hovering over the end of my bed. It's usually late at night when I see this. The room is dark but I noticed the darker spot - plus we have the light over the stove on and it lights up enough down the hall and into our bedroom that I'm able to make out a shape.
I've seen the kids talk to the air many times - especially when they are babies.
Where I work is supposedly visited by a ghost of a prankster woman who used to own the land that the buildings are on. She comes by every now and then to check on things.
Today, I talked with a lady who showed me pictures of some spirits she had captured on film. After talking to her, I think I picked up one of her spirit followers. As she was leaving, I got really cold and had a chill that didn't end until I opened the chair next to me and told the spirit to sit.
So that's my history with spirits. I hope my kids will be open minded about it and enjoy their encounters. I will blog about my encounters and studies in the field of paranormal activity.
